Where to get passport photos near me

Most Americans live near at least one store that takes passport photos. The table compares the national chains on price, digital copies and appointments, and the notes below cover each one.

Every price comes from the company's own website or store pages, checked on November 8, 2026. Prices may vary by store and do not include sales tax, so call ahead if price matters to you.

CVS and Walgreens passport photos

The two big pharmacy chains are the most common places to get a passport photo, and their prices are close.

CVS

CVS lists passport photos at $17.99 for two 2 x 2 prints, with a digital copy by email for $3.99 more (checked November 8, 2026). Staff take the photo at the photo counter and print it in the store. Not every CVS has a photo counter, so check the store page first.

Walgreens

Walgreens charges $16.99 for two printed photos and includes a digital copy by email at no extra cost. Walgreens says the service is in store only at most locations, no appointment is needed, and a printed photo is typically ready a few minutes after it is taken. A digital copy on a USB drive costs extra.

Walmart and Costco

Walmart is the low-price option, and Costco is no longer an option at all.

Walmart

Walmart Photo Centers had the lowest price we found at $7.64 (checked November 8, 2026). Walmart's photo site says passport photos are a Photo Center in-store service only, so you cannot order them online, and not every Walmart has a Photo Center. Call ahead to confirm the counter is open.

Costco

Costco closed its in-store photo centers at all warehouses on February 14, 2021, and passport photos ended with them. If a map listing shows Costco passport photos near you, check with the warehouse before you drive.

USPS: passport photos at the post office

Select Post Offices take passport photos for $15, the fee USPS listed in an April 2026 release. Not every location offers photos, and many passport offices work by appointment, which you can book with the USPS online scheduler.

The post office makes sense if you are applying in person with Form DS-11 anyway, because you can get the photo and submit the application in one visit. The trade-off: we found no USPS mention of a digital copy, so a post office photo does not help with online renewal.

FedEx Office, The UPS Store and Staples

Shipping and office stores are a good backup when the pharmacy line is long. Prices are a little higher, and some include a digital file.

FedEx Office

The FedEx Office store pages we checked list $15.95 for either two 2 x 2 printed photos or a digital copy on a USB drive, with no appointment needed.

The UPS Store

UPS Store locations are independently owned, so prices vary. Store pages we checked listed $15.99 in Dana Point, California, and $19.99 plus tax for two prints in Charlotte, North Carolina, where a digital copy was $19.99 alone or $34.99 with prints. Many locations take online appointments.

Staples

Staples sells passport photos online for in-store service: $19.99 for two prints, $21.99 for a digital file, or $24.99 for both. Staples says it will retake photos that do not meet State Department requirements free of charge. The service is non-refundable.

AAA passport photos

Many AAA branches take passport photos, and the price depends on your regional club and membership level.

At AAA Northeast, for example, non-members pay $16 a set, Basic members pay $12, Plus members get one set a year at no charge, and Premier members get four sets per household a year plus a digital photo (checked November 8, 2026). Other clubs set their own prices and perks, so check your club's website before you go.

Wait times and appointments

No chain publishes live wait times, so plan for the line, not the photo. The photo itself takes a few minutes: Walgreens says prints are typically ready a few minutes after the photo is taken, and Staples store pages describe a service of about 10 minutes.

  • Walk-in: Walgreens, Walmart and FedEx Office say no appointment is needed.
  • Appointments common: post offices and many UPS Stores.
  • Busy times: weekends, lunch hours and the weeks before spring and summer travel tend to be busiest. Weekday mornings are often quieter.
  • Before you go: call to confirm the store offers passport photos that day and the photo station is working.

Rejection risk: check store photos before you leave

A store photo is not automatically compliant. Staff training varies, and the same State Department rules apply no matter who takes the photo. Check the print at the counter before you leave:

  • No shadows on your face or the background.
  • Head size: top of head and chin both in the frame, not too close or too far.
  • Eyes open and level, no glasses.
  • Background white or off-white, not gray.
  • Sharp focus and natural color.

Ask for a retake if anything looks off. Staples promises a free retake for photos that do not meet requirements; at other stores, ask about their policy before the photo is taken. The common problems are listed in passport photo rejection reasons.

Digital passport photos near me

Online passport renewal needs a digital file (JPG, PNG, HEIC or HEIF, 54 KB to 10 MB), not prints. Here is who includes one, based on the prices we checked:

  • Walgreens: emailed copy included in the $16.99 price.
  • CVS: emailed copy for $3.99 extra.
  • FedEx Office: digital copy on USB for $15.95, instead of prints.
  • Staples: $21.99 for the file, $24.99 with prints.
  • The UPS Store: extra at many stores.
  • USPS: prints only, as far as we found.

You can also skip the trip. A digital passport photo from PhotoForPass is $16.95 and ready for online renewal.

When an online passport photo is the better choice

Honestly, if you live near a Walmart Photo Center and only need two prints, Walmart is the cheapest option. An online photo makes more sense when:

  • You need a digital file for online renewal.
  • You want to retake the photo at home until you are happy, with no line.
  • You are photographing a baby or toddler who will not sit still in a store.
  • Two or three family members need photos. Family packs are $29.95 for 2 people and $39.95 for 3.
  • The nearest store is far away, closed or booked up.
  • You want the photo checked against the rules before you pay.

PhotoForPass fixes the lighting, replaces the background with plain white, sizes and crops the photo to the official rules and checks it against the requirements, about 30 to 60 seconds after payment. Print the $18.95 sheet at any CVS, Walgreens or Walmart. Every order has a 14-day money-back guarantee, and if an agency rejects the photo you get a full refund.

Visa photos and other countries near me

Most stores are set up for US 2 x 2 photos. Some take international sizes, but ask before you go.

A 35 x 45 mm photo for the UK, a Schengen visa or India is a different size and crop. A US visa (DS-160) needs a digital file from 600 x 600 to 1200 x 1200 pixels, so ask whether the store's digital copy meets that size. Canada requires a commercial photographer who prints the photo and marks the back with the studio details, so follow the Canada passport photo rules instead of using an app.

PhotoForPass makes US visa photos and 35 x 45 mm photos from the same phone photo, so you do not need to find a store that handles your country.

Yes. CVS stores with a photo counter take passport photos, and cvs.com lists them at $17.99 for two 2 x 2 prints, with an emailed digital copy for $3.99 more (checked November 8, 2026). Not every CVS has a photo counter, so check the store page or call first. Our passport photo cost guide compares CVS with Walgreens, USPS and Walmart.

Does Walgreens take passport photos without an appointment?

Yes. Walgreens says passport photos are available in store at most locations with no appointment needed. The price is $16.99 for two printed photos, and a digital copy by email is included (checked November 8, 2026). Walgreens says the printed photo is typically ready a few minutes after it is taken. Passport photos cannot be ordered on walgreens.com.

Does the post office take passport photos?

Select Post Offices take passport photos for $15, the fee USPS listed in an April 2026 release. Not every location offers the service, and many passport offices require an appointment, which you can book with the USPS online scheduler. We found no USPS mention of a digital copy, so a post office photo is for printed applications, not online renewal.

Does Costco do passport photos?

No. Costco closed its in-store photo centers at all warehouses on February 14, 2021, and passport photos ended at the same time. For a nearby alternative, try Walmart, which listed passport photos at $7.64, or Walgreens at $16.99 with a digital copy included (prices checked November 8, 2026). You can also make one from a phone photo online.

How much are Walmart passport photos?

Walmart passport photos were listed at $7.64 on Walmart's photo site (checked November 8, 2026), the lowest price we found. The service is in store only at Walmart locations with a Photo Center, and it cannot be ordered online. Not every Walmart has a Photo Center, so call your store before you go. We found no listed digital copy option.

Does FedEx Office take passport photos?

Yes. The FedEx Office store pages we checked list passport photos at $15.95, with a choice of two 2 x 2 printed photos or a digital copy on a USB drive, and no appointment needed (checked November 8, 2026). If you need both prints and a digital file, ask your store about the price, since the listed $15.95 covers one or the other.

How much does The UPS Store charge for passport photos?

The UPS Store locations are independently owned, so passport photo prices vary. Store pages we checked on November 8, 2026 listed $15.99 in Dana Point, California, and $19.99 plus tax for two prints in Charlotte, North Carolina, where a digital copy was another option at $19.99 alone or $34.99 with prints. Many UPS Stores take online appointments.

Are AAA passport photos free?

AAA passport photos are free for some members, depending on your club and level. At AAA Northeast, Plus members get one set a year and Premier members get four sets per household a year plus a digital photo, while Basic members pay $12 and non-members $16 (checked November 8, 2026). Other AAA clubs set different prices, so check your club.

How long does it take to get a passport photo at a store?

Taking and printing a passport photo usually takes a few minutes once it is your turn. Walgreens says prints are typically ready a few minutes after the photo is taken, and Staples store pages describe a service of about 10 minutes. The wait in line is the unknown, so call ahead and avoid weekends and lunch hours if you can.

What is the cheapest place to get a passport photo near me?

Walmart was the cheapest in-store option we found, at $7.64 at stores with a Photo Center (checked November 8, 2026). USPS charges $15 at select Post Offices, and FedEx Office $15.95. Some AAA members get photos at no charge. If you need a digital file, compare Walgreens at $16.99 with a digital copy included and PhotoForPass at $16.95.

Where can I get a digital passport photo near me?

Walgreens includes a digital copy by email in its $16.99 passport photo price. CVS charges $3.99 extra for an emailed copy, FedEx Office offers a USB copy for $15.95 instead of prints, and Staples sells a digital file for $21.99 (prices checked November 8, 2026). USPS offers prints only, as far as we found. PhotoForPass makes a digital photo from your phone for $16.95.

Can I get a visa photo near me?

Many stores can take a US 2 x 2 photo that also works for a printed US visa photo, but the DS-160 needs a digital file from 600 x 600 to 1200 x 1200 pixels and up to 240 kB. Ask whether the store's digital copy meets that size. Photos for other countries, such as 35 x 45 mm, are a different size, so ask before you go.

What if my store passport photo gets rejected?

If a store photo is rejected, the State Department asks for a new photo and your application waits until it arrives. Ask the store about its policy: Staples promises a free retake for noncompliant photos and says the service is non-refundable. To lower the risk, check the print before you leave for shadows, glasses, head size and a white background.
